Custom Commissions
For the ones who can never be replaced.
Custom pet memorial portraits, hand-painted by Fred Barca. 35 years of craft. Every brushstroke placed by a human hand. Zero AI.
A hand-painted memorial portrait becomes the one object in a home that holds an entire life.
A photograph captures a moment. A painting interprets a relationship. There is a reason people commission portraits — not because they've forgotten what their companion looked like, but because they want something that carries weight, that takes up space in a room the way a real presence does.
Fred Barca has been painting animals for 35 years. He paints the eyes first — always. Because the eyes are where the personality lives, where 10 or 15 or 17 years of a shared life accumulated. He paints until the subject stops being a reference photo and starts being the animal you knew. That is the only standard he works to.
Every Memorial Studio commission is painted personally by Fred. Not delegated. Not templated. Not generated. Painted. The process takes weeks. The result is a piece of work that will outlast every photo you own, and hold the weight those photos can no longer hold.
Every Memorial Studio portrait is a direct commission with Fred Barca. You share your reference photos, we discuss the composition, Fred paints. Simple as that — and nothing like a template.
Delivered as a high-resolution digital file — print it at any size, any lab, anywhere in the world. Or have it printed through our preferred partners.
Limited commission slots available. Fred works on one piece at a time.
Share your best reference images of your pet — multiple angles, natural light, eyes visible. The more Fred has to work with, the more accurate the likeness.
Fred sketches the composition and discusses options with you — background treatment, pose, size, style. You approve before paint touches canvas.
Fred paints. Layer by layer, stroke by stroke. This takes weeks. There are no shortcuts and no substitutes.
You receive a 300 DPI print-ready file — sized to print large. Frame it, print it, gift it. It's yours permanently.
I don't paint an animal. I paint what it was like to be loved by one.

Commission a PortraitFred Barca has been a working digital fine artist since the early 1990s, before digital art had a name most people recognized. He spent years as a Creative Director, building visual systems for brands — and painting on the side. Eventually the painting became everything.
He's painted hundreds of animals. Dogs, cats, horses, wolves, lions. Memorial Studio is the most personal work he does — because it's the work that matters most to the people who receive it. Fred treats every commission as if it were being painted for someone he knew.
Because in a way, it always is.
