The Market Is Full of Cute Cats. I Paint Something Else.

Search "cat art" on any marketplace and you will find thousands of watercolor kittens, pastel tabby portraits, and whimsical cartoon cats in teacups. It is pleasant work. It sells steadily. It is also completely interchangeable.

I made a decision early: I will not compete in that market. Instead, I paint cats that are electric — saturated, dramatic, attitude-forward paintings that feel more like rock posters than greeting cards.

"A cute cat painting says 'I love cats.' An electric cat painting says 'I am a cat.'"

What "Electric" Means in Practice

Electric cat paintings share several characteristics:

The Color as Character

In my Sassy Cats collection, color is not decoration — it is character. DJ Kitty is purple and gold because those colors communicate both musicality and royalty. Snow Kitty is arctic blue-white because that color communicates aloofness and rarity. Rainbow Kitty cycles through the spectrum because it cannot be contained by a single identity.

Every color choice is a personality choice.

Why This Approach Sells

Electric cat art is distinctive at thumbnail size. In a marketplace grid, a dramatically lit, impossibly saturated cat portrait stops the scroll in a way that a pastel watercolor kitten does not. Differentiation is the entire game in e-commerce art, and electric cats are differentiated by design.

They also appeal to a specific customer who is not buying "cat art" generically — they are buying a specific emotional experience. That customer is loyal, repeat-buying, and deeply enthusiastic about sharing what they own.
